Mauritania cuts diplomatic ties with Israel

Mauritius FlagMauritania's Secretary of Foreign Affairs has announced that the country has completely severed diplomatic relations with Israel in completion of a process that began last year.

Late on Saturday from the capital of Nouakchott, Naha Bint Hamdi Wild Meknes confirmed that Mauritania had completely cut off all diplomatic relations with Israel.

Mauritania was one of only three Arab countries that had full diplomatic relations with Israel; however in March last year, it closed the Israeli embassy in the capital, Nouakchott, and expelled its representative.

This move has come following a freeze in relations between the two states in the wake of Israel's attacks on Gaza.
