Reports from Israel claim that the US government has allocated tens of millions of dollars from the 2012 budget to help the Israelis to develop the "Iron Dome" anti-rocket system. According to Radio Israel, the Department of Defence in Washington has agreed to provide financial assistance to the Zionist state to pay for four more anti-rocket batteries. The Israel Defence Forces had hinted earlier at the failure of its Iron Dome systems when intercepting rockets fired from the Gaza Strip by Palestinians resisting Israel's military occupation.

The US Army's Lieutenant-General Patrick O'Reilly, Director of the Pentagon's Missile Defence Agency, said that a $200 million increase in the Pentagon's budget allows for making such a purchase for Israel. In April, the US Congress approved $205 million in aid to Israel for the development of the Iron Dome missile defence system, which is the largest budget to be allocated for developing anti-rocket systems. Israel plans to invest billions of dollars in this way over the next five years.

Commentators have asked whether the American public know that their tax money is being allocated for the upgrading of the already formidable defence capability of a foreign country at a time when the US domestic economy is still "hobbled". A report from Reuters says that the economy faces "an uphill struggle for the recovery".
