Falk calls for economic sanctions on Israel to force an end to Gaza blockade

Falk calls for economic sanctions on Israel to force an end to Gaza blockade The United Nations Special Human Rights Rapporteur in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Richard Falk, yesterday stressed the need to urgently and wholly implement the findings of the Goldstone report commissioned by the Human Rights Council.

In a statement issued in New York Falk days before the first anniversary of the Israeli onslaught on Gaza, Falk said Israel’s allies in Europe and North America must insist on an end to the illegal siege imposed on the Gaza Strip. He called on western governments to use the threat of economic sanctions to force an end to the blockade.

Falk said the suffering of one and half million people affected by the Zionist siege continues without any international objection.  He noted that the current situation represents a catastrophic failure of leading governments in the world and the UN to honor their responsibility.
