US: Israeli rabbi's remarks offensive

Washington has criticized Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef over remarks that Palestinians should perish from this world.

"We regret and condemn the inflammatory statements by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef," US State Department spokesman Philip J. Crowley said on Sunday.

"These remarks are not only deeply offensive, but incitement such as this hurts the cause of peace," he added.

"As we move forward to re-launch peace negotiations, it is important that actions by people on all sides help to advance our effort, not hinder it," Crowley said.

Washington's efforts to ease the siege on Gaza are "not serious"

E-mail Print

Washington's efforts to ease the siege on Gaza are "not serious"A Palestinian MP has said that if the US administration was "genuinely interested" in helping to ease the suffering of his people, it could do so. Instead, claims Jamal Al-Khadry, who is also the President of the Popular Committee Against the Siege in Gaza, recent calls by Washington were to be seen in the context of helping Israel to face UN accusations that it committed war crimes in Gaza a year ago. The Americans, he believes, "are not serious" about ending the Israeli-led siege on Gaza.

"If President Obama wanted to help Palestinians, he could," said Al-Khadry, "by putting pressure on the Israelis who are, after all, protected and supported politically and financially by the United States." The siege goes against all standards of human rights and international law, he added. The result, says Al-Khadry, is that "the American government must share the blame with Israel for the consequences of the siege which is now entering its fourth year".

According to the Independent member of the Palestinian parliament, American inaction is designed to "beautify the image of the cruel occupation and siege" in the face of increasing criticism of Israeli policies around the world.

  1. I have always wondered how can anyone in their right mind ever think that the USA government would change their politics towards Israel. It will NEVER happen no matter how great suffering of the innocent Palestinians.
When the Americans professors Mearsheimer and Walt published their book "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign policy" a few years ago, their had got so much critics and were called antisemitic and personally insulted. And that was only a book based on facts...

Unfortunately, the Palestinian leaders do not understand that the West and the USA do not see their people as equal human beings. Therefore, they pretend not to see their suffering and injustices which is forced upon them by Israel. But the leaders of the majority of the Arab countries are not better because they simply swim with the tide and count their money which they would later spend buying commodities in the West.
So it is a sad story which has been going on for decades and will continue for years to come because those who could change the status quo are not interested in doing that and we who watch how our brothers and sisters Muslims suffer are unable to help them because leaders in the West do not want to hear our cries.
