Platini threatens to annul Israel's membership of UEFA

Platini threatens to annul Israeli membership of UEFAThe president of the European Union of Football Associations (UAFA), Michel Platini, has threatened to annul Israel's membership to the union because of the restrictions it imposes on Palestinian football players.

In a meeting with Jibril al-Rajoub, head of the Palestinian football union, Platini confirmed that Israel's non-adherence to international sporting regulations will lead to the cancellation of its UEFA membership.

He added; "We accepted them in Europe and furnished them the conditions for membership and they must respect the letter of the laws and international regulations otherwise there is no justification for them to remain in Europe. He continued; "Israel must choose between allowing Palestinian sport to continue and prosper or be forced to face the consequences for their behaviour."

Platini revealed that he had received a phone call from Joseph S. Blatter, President of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), in which he expressed his strong displeasure with Israeli practices and its restrictions on Palestinian players.

He confirmed that he would put all his weight behind ending the suffering of Palestinian players particularly in football and that he would undertake to convey this to UEFA's Executive Office during an upcoming meeting on the 1st of October in the capital of Belarus.

I think it's very interesting that this article doesn't actually say what exactly these "restrictions" are.

I hope that Mr. Platini and Blatter also have a plan how to enable footballers free movement while preventing loss of human lives.

Josh: Restrictions include:

1. banning players in the national team from Gaza to travel for training sessions with their West Bank team mates (and in the other direction too). At the moment they try to overcome this by traveling to Jordan or Egypt.

2. banning Palestinian football association from hosting football matches with national teams that have no diplomatic relations with Israel.
3. There are two football leagues in the Pal territories: one in Gaza and one in West Bank. This is another outcome of Israel's violation of the individual rights to free movement.
4. bombarding civilian sports clubs and facilities. these include: Jabalia Youth club football, Palestine club stadium, Rafah services sports clubs.

Do you want more "restrictions"?

Hertzl and Josh. You guys dont seem to know anything about the conflict. Educate yourselves first.

Allowing Palestinians to travel to play football abroad for international games, how on earth does that jeopardize Israeli security? You can control them coming in and out, ok granted. But let them travel for gods sake.

Michel, kick Israel out, maybe that will make them come to their senses

Do arabs allow Israeli footballers unfettered entry to their territory? Why is Israel in UEFA in the first place?

Arabs start acting responsibly and you will get the right to travel through Israel as you please.

@Jimmy Maquire. What the hell are you talking about? I'd say the palestinians are acting more than responsibly considering the oppression of the state of israel? The palestinians have the right to defend their land as of 1967s borders and acknowledged under international law och the UN!

To this day the strength of the IDF is unmatched in the region, the least we could do here in europe is to boycott any and all israeli products and/or sporting events, UNTIL they dismantle the illegal "settlements" on the West bank, cancel the illegal blockade of Gaza and start respecting international law.

First then, will there ever be a chance for peace and forgiveness...

@Martin : as a Jewish in the state of Israel, if our army was a bit weaker or matched to anyone of the Arab countries, I would not have been a-live. So, because our army is stronger, that's what keeps me and everyone else here alive, and yet, we don't go and try to conquer other arab countries and kill everyone, why? because we're human. like yourself.

Do you think any other Arabic countries will let Israeli players inside? ohh boy you're wrong.

How is the blockade illegal? Anything that goes through checks is let to go inside. If it doesn't go through checks, because it was used for smuggling rockets (to shoot at me... yeah, one of them was 400 meters from me), then it shouldn't go through.

You come to complaints on Israel, but why don't you ask Egypt, which is another Arab country with shared border with Gaza to allow stuff in? Yet you don't hear anyone complain about it (they don't allow anything in/out).

Bomarding sports center? You should blame the terrorist that go to schools and shoot missiles from it, or plant bombs in it. Yes, they do it for their own people. In-fact, if a terrorist (Hamas == Terrorist Government) see an Israeli aircraft, the first thing he do is to grab a little kid so the aircraft will not shoot him down. They hide behind population, that's why sometimes (which is bad and never the initial purpose) civilians get hurt. But they can come and blame their government for not choosing the peace path.

Search youtube for "hamas street kid" for seeing those stuff...

Regarding Platini, all I can say that you're ridiculously blame the wrong side... You've been brain washed by people, come visit for real life tour, Don't go to politics, you're obviously not good at understanding who's the good side and who's the bad side.
