Netanyahu cancels meeting scheduled with Obama for next week

Netanyahu cancels scheduled meeting with Obama for next weekIsraeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has confirmed that this coming Sunday he will embark on an official visit to the US during which he will be attending "the Conference of American Jewish Organisations" and on the side lines will also meet with US Vice President, Joe Biden.

During a meeting with ministers from the ruling Likud party on Sunday morning (31.10.2010), Netanyahu indicated that he had cancelled the planned meeting between himself and US president, Barak Obama. The cancellation was ostensibly due to the latter's commitment to tour a number of Asian countries as well as Netanyahu's commitment to attend the Conference of Jewish Organisations in New Orleans.

This comes at a time when Arab diplomatic sources have drawn attention to new US initiatives and communications aimed at extending the respite given to it by the Arab league which will come to an end on the second of November. Washington must find a solution to the quandary of settlements which brought the recent round of direct peace negotiations to a halt.
