OIC chief calls for media campaign to publicise Israeli aggression

OIC chief calls for media campaign to publicise Israeli aggression. The Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has urged the media in member states to step up the production of public information programmes in cooperation with their Palestinian colleagues as part of a campaign to highlight Israeli aggression. Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu also called for world public opinion to be addressed by presenting the facts of the Palestinian cause and the suffering endured by the people of Palestine in order to counter the negative image portrayed by Israeli propaganda.

A report by Dr Ihsanoglu was presented at a meeting of the Supervisory and Follow-up Committee after the eighth session of the Conference for Ministers of Information at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah on 22 May. He said that the issue of Palestine and Jerusalem had been mentioned in numerous meetings held with world leaders and officials. The report also pointed out that a number of statements had been issued condemning Israeli attacks on the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem.

"The OIC," added Dr Ihsanoglu, "has appealed repeatedly to member states to provide assistance to the Palestinian Authority for the support and development of Palestinian media capabilities."
