Netanyahu: We are committed to the "unity of Jerusalem" with US support

Netanyahu: We are committed to the "unity of Jerusalem" with US supportIsrael's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has confirmed his government's commitment to the construction and development of occupied Jerusalem, through the implementation of a number of Judaization projects supported by both houses of the US Congress.

Speaking at the beginning of a cabinet meeting on Sunday, 29th May, Netanyahu said, "the unity of Jerusalem is one of the foundations of unity for the people of Israel, and the broad support these foundations have received from the Knesset and Congress, is an asset of the State of Israel".

The prime minister's remarks were made one day after the assembly of the Follow-up Committee for the Arab Peace Initiative, which adopted the Palestinian Authority's decision to seek formal recognition from the United Nations of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem.

The head of the Israeli government had previously declared in his speech to the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, last week, his commitment not to divide Jerusalem and "maintain it as a united capital of Israel".
