Israel has further escalated tensions with the Gaza Strip and continued the sequence of violence by launching further rocket attacks against the beleaguered sector, despite agreeing to a recent ceasefire with resistance factions.

Yesterday, targets in the north of the Gaza Strip, including the Beit Lahiya sports club and a children's kindergarten, came under heavy missile attack from Israeli war planes. The assault left a number of adjacent civilian houses either partially or completely destroyed.

Eleven people are now known to have been killed and more than 30 injured in this latest attacks.
