Back Middle East Jewish extremists attack Baptist Church in Jerusalem

Jewish extremists attack Baptist Church in Jerusalem

The Baptist Church in west Jerusalem has been attacked by Jewish extremists. Anti-Christian slogans were scrawled on the walls and three vehicles belonging to the church had their tyres slashed. The deeply offensive Hebrew graffiti included, "We will crucify you" and "Death to Christianity"; profanities about Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, and his mother Mary were also written.

The Secretary General of the Islamic-Christian Organisation, Hanna Issa, told Quds Press that Israeli policy in Jerusalem is merciless towards both Muslims and Christians, and that the occupation authorities are targeting the Palestinian presence in the holy city.

Mr. Issa said that the attack on the church was the second of its kind in two weeks. On 7 February, Jewish extremists attacked the 11th-century Monastery of the Cross, also in west Jerusalem, and desecrated the building with anti-Christian graffiti.

"This falls within the framework of the attacks carried out by the so-called Price Tag group that is supported by the official authorities," he said. "This indicates that Israel does not differentiate between Christians and Muslims in its Judaisation policy; Israel wants us all to get the message that this is supposed to be a state for Jews only."

He explained further that Arab and Muslim silence and lack of action is "unacceptable", and called on Arabs and Muslims "to stand up against Israel’s racism affecting Palestinian Christians and Muslims alike".
