US: Israeli rabbi's remarks offensive

Washington has criticized Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef over remarks that Palestinians should perish from this world.

"We regret and condemn the inflammatory statements by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef," US State Department spokesman Philip J. Crowley said on Sunday.

"These remarks are not only deeply offensive, but incitement such as this hurts the cause of peace," he added.

"As we move forward to re-launch peace negotiations, it is important that actions by people on all sides help to advance our effort, not hinder it," Crowley said.

Israeli forces storm Al-Aqsa Mosque and attack worshippers; scores are injured

Medical sources in Occupied Jerusalem said that between 30 and 50 people were treated for injuries sustained during the clashes; the injured included women and children.Israeli armed forces stormed into Al Aqsa Mosque the third holiest site in the Muslim world last Friday, having first locked the compound gates with chains. A number of worshippers were corralled in the Noble Sanctuary's courtyards and inside the Marwan prayer area. Clashes between the occupation forces and worshippers took place across Al-Aqsa compound and in the markets of the Old City of Jerusalem.

Firing tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades, the Israeli forces also used batons to attack worshippers men, women, children and the elderly. Worshippers were prevented from leaving the area while the attack was taking place.

When news of the clashes at the Noble Sanctuary reached the Old City, confrontations between Palestinians and the Israeli forces took place in local streets and markets.

Medical sources in Occupied Jerusalem said that between 30 and 50 people were treated for injuries sustained during the clashes; the injured included women and children. First aid teams worked inside the mosque while the occupation forces prevented ambulances from entering the Noble Sanctuary compound. According to the Israelis, 3 soldiers were injured during the operation.

  1. They are ruthless, heartless animals attacking innocent worshippers. Why cant they just let them be? Why go into our holy mosque and torture our people?Allah is the best of judgers and He will judge accordingly. They will get their punishment in the hereafter.
  2. One day the armies of Islam will unite under one conviction, the Oneness of Allah and that Muhammad is his slave and messenger. All the evil doers will have their punishment under the boots of all the mujaheedin fighting for the cause of Allah. Unite my brothers and sisters and fight for Islam, it is best to fight as a true Muslim and die as a saheed, Inshallah, Allahuakbar!
