A public event entitled "Youth for Reconciliation", organised and sponsored by the Foundation for Strategic Studies, took place in central Gaza City on Monday, 8 March. The foundation aims to promote Palestinian unity and reconciliation through art as well as other means of personal expression. Yesterday's event saw the collective creation of a large mural by Palestinian youths calling for an end to communal divisions.

The director of the foundation, Omar Sha'ban, said: "This activity consists of a group of Palestinian youths expressing a distinct form of reality through art and cartoons and reflects the role of the youth in the rejection of this bitter reality that damages the Palestinian cause."

The current necessity for reconciliation and the effectiveness of a series of previous events underscore the requirement for a mass popular movement which will put pressure on both Fatah and Hamas in order to reach an end to division and achieve national reconciliation.
