Israeli warplanes launched a series of raids at dawn on Friday 19 March, in various areas across the Gaza Strip. The raids happened hours after a foreign worker was killed in Ashkelon by homemade rockets that were fired in reaction to the siege on Jerusalem by Israeli forces.
Israeli F-16s launched missiles into populated Palestinian areas, causing extensive damage to a family owned metal workshop on Salah al-Din Street in Gaza City. No casualties were reported.
Furthermore, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) positioned on the borders of the besieged Strip, fired three rockets inland, in the areas of Qarara and Deir al-Balah. No injuries were reported.
In Khan Younis, IOF warplanes fired a missile into an open area in the east of Abassan; Palestinian security sources later confirmed the missile did not explode.
In Rafah, Israeli warplanes launched four raids on the area bordering Egypt, with no casualties reported. Security sources in Gaza reported the IOF targeted tunnels used to transport food, medicine and other basic necessities in the Qeshta neighbourhood, as well as one tunnel in Brazil neighbourhood.
The previous night, artillery units shot into the east of Gaza City, with eyewitnesses confirming that at least 40 mortar shells were shot and found behind the juice factory east of the Shujaia neighbourhood. A loud explosion was heard the same evening with the Israeli soldiers forewarning that IOF tanks and bulldozers were moving closer to the besieged city's borders.
