Back Campaigns Israel denies its Occupation of the Palestinian Territory

Israel denies its Occupation of the Palestinian Territory

The Guardian Weekend Magazine published a map under the title 'Welcome To Northern Israel' depicted a map of Israel encompassing the whole of historic Palestine including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

As part of Israel's Ministry of Tourism systematic campaign of distorting facts, the misleading map implies that the entire area is Israel and that the Occupied Palestinian Territory including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem are part of Israel.

This advert denies rights entitled by international law to the Palestinian people stipulated in several United Nations (UN) resolutions including UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions 242 and 338. This is an international misrepresentation of facts that aims to erase the historic realities of the Palestinian people and whitewash Israel's occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

We urge you to write to The Guardian to ensure that the public is not misled by such altered facts and to file a complaint at the Advertising Standards Authority website. Israel has not only pursued a systematic policy of annexing Palestinian land and violating Palestinian human rights but also seeks to annihilate Palestinian existence and rights.

It will only take you a few moments to file a complaint to The Guardian (who issued the advert) and to the Advertising Standard Authority who monitor misleading information and take subsequent legal action to rectify altered facts.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I write to object to Israel's Ministry of Tourism advert featured in The Guardian Weekend Magazine on November 26, 2011 on pages 23-25.

The display of a map of Israel encompassing the whole of historic Palestine including Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem is misleading and an international misrepresentation of facts; aiming to erase the historic realities of the Palestinian people and whitewash Israel's occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

As readers of The Guardian we believe that such adverts harm the credibility of this well renowned newspaper.

We demand that you stop from participating in the advertisement of such adverts that deny Palestinians their rights and violate international law.

Thank You,
