MEMO are proud to announce that we are holding a seminar on the "Universal Jurisdiction against Israeli War Criminals" this Monday 7th December.
The focus of the seminar will be the discussion on how different legal mechanisms can be used to hold Israel accountable for its human rights and international law violations. Discussions will also take place as to the way forward in light of the Arab League fact Finding Report on Gaza and the recent landmark Goldstone report.
The keynote address will be read on behalf of Professor John Dugard, former UN special human rights rapporteur to the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Panelists include:
- Solicitors Tayab Ali and Daniel Machover; barristers Michel Masseh QC and Paul Troop: the legal brains behind the application for arrest warrants under the Geneva Conventions Act 1957 for war crimes against Ehud Barak in October 2009 and Doron Almog in 2005.
- Victor Kattan: International law expert and author of the book "From Coexistence to Conquest, International Law and the Origins of the Arab-Israeli Conflict 1891-1941."
- Issam Younis: Director of Al-Mezan Human Rights Center in Gaza.
- Michelle Harris: Barrister who has trained lawyers and NGOs in Ramallah on international humanitarian law, and one of the founders of "Labour Friends of Palestine and Middle East."
- Haytham Mana'a: Spokesperson of the Arab Human Rights Commission (France) and coordinator of the International Coalition Against War Criminals.
The seminar will take place on the 7th of December at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law in Russell Square (WC1B 5JP) from 3pm to 7:45 pm. Snacks and refreshments will be provided and will be followed by a roundtable discussion.
